A brief history of Morris Visitor Publications

Morris purchased Best Read Guide Franchise Corp. in 1997. Today's Best Read Guide group in the United States combines both franchisees and Morris-owned guides. IN new york is an independent Morris-owned monthly published in New York City.
Best Read Guides contain lodging, dining, shopping, tourist attraction and event information for each locale, along with maps, directories, calendars and money-saving coupons. With their liberal inclusion of stories on interesting people, places and histories of each area, Morris publications are distinctive in their editorial content and family orientation. Most of the publications are online at www.bestreadguide.com, which expands options and convenience for travelers and advertisers alike.
Guest Informant, the largest publisher of guidebooks for the major metropolitan areas of the United States, was a significant 2003 acquisition that positioned the visitor group as the largest sector of the Morris magazine division. The company's hardcover city guides, now branded as Where GuestBook™, are distributed in-room in hundreds of hotels across the country and reach literally millions of travelers. The company's Quick Guides, Maps and Guides and custom publications serve additional markets within the industry.
In August 2004, Morris purchased the franchise rights to publish the internationally known WHERE magazines in six market areas. Morris now owns the WHERE publications in Baltimore, Md.; Charleston, S.C.; Dallas, Texas; Miami, Fla.; Orlando, Fla.; and Philadelphia, Pa. Morris also acquired the annual publication Discover Utah, as well as four annual visitor publications based in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Additionally in August 2004, Morris acquired three North Carolina Guest Guide publications from Lone Wolf Publishing Inc.: the Charlotte Guest Guide, the Triad Guest Guide (serving Greensboro, High Point, Winston-Salem and Burlington) and the Triangle Guest Guide (serving Raleigh, Durham, Research Triangle Park and Chapel Hill). Since 1990, Guest Guides have been positioned as the premier travel guides for North Carolina. The guides include information on shopping, sights and attractions, restaurants, parks and gardens, and entertainment.
In October 2004, Morris acquired the rights to publish WHERE magazine in certain additional markets in the United States and Europe from WHERE International, Los Angeles, Calif. Included in this acquisition are WHERE magazines in Chicago, Dulles Corridor (Va.), Las Vegas, New Orleans, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, St. Louis, Washington D.C., and Paris.
In March 2005, Morris acquired WHERE publishing rights in Atlanta. The agreement included WHERE Atlanta, WHERE Georgia and Travel Georgia magazines, as well as Map Georgia and WHERE Map Atlanta, all formerly published by Atlanta Metropolitan Publishing Inc. (AMP). In April 2005, Morris acquired WHERE publishing rights in Phoenix. The agreement included WHERE Phoenix , Essential Phoenix/Scottsdale and various map products, all formerly published by Southwest Visitors Publications, LLC ("Southwest"), a division of AMP.
